Camden street style #13: White jeans and orange beards
Monday, 2nd June 2014

Nancy Hayes, 27 is dressed head to toe in clothes from Topshop, except for her jelly shoes which are from Primark. She wears a turquoise vest-top with white jeans, and a floaty, fringed shawl. Nancy, who is a PA from Bethnal Green, has gone for a “beachy, summery” look today for a friend’s party. Her best fashion advice is to go bargain-hunting on eBay, adding: “I get all my best buys from there.”
Adrian Kai was in a too much of a rush to share many of his style tips as he was on his way to a soundcheck for a gig. Adrian, who we discovered is part of blues group The Future Shape of Sound, is sporting a smart suit with leopard-print shoes and a matching tie to brighten up the outfit. To add that extra edge, he finishes off the look with a hat, some shades and an orange beard.
Lydia Muallar, 25, from Germany is on holiday in London, staying in Camden which she calls “my part of town”. Lydia, has gone for a “rockabilly” look, sporting a band T-shirt from Germany, Doc Martens boots, a black cardigan from Majorca, with a patch representing The Cure – one of her favourite bands – and a bag from Camden. But what really sets off her look, apart from her blue hair, are her many tattoos. The one visible on her right arm is a row of Matryoshkas (Russian dolls) to represent the country she was born in. But hidden away, she also has a plant from The Little Shop of Horrors, pictures from Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein's monster and his wife. She has just been to get another one in Camden as a souvenir: “I love Sweeney Todd so it's Mrs Lovett's pie, with fingers and an eye and loads of blood coming out… the worst pies in London,” she said.
Tate Carpenter, 22, from Blackheath in south-east London describes her style as “modern-vintage,” as she explains, she likes retro gear but doesn't want to look like she's “straight out of the 1950s”. Tate, who runs a boutique in Greenwich selling “high-end streetwear,” is dressed today in Liberty print Vans, with a blue skirt from Zara, a white, vintage lace top and a short-sleeved leather jacket.
Lottie Fowler, 18, has dressed up for her birthday treat… her boyfriend is taking her out to Icebar later tonight. The college student from Brighton is wearing tropical flower-print trousers from River Island, a white cropped vest from Topshop, a coral-coloured H&M shirt, and some shoes from River Island. Lottie said: “I love bright colours, and I don't like looking the same as everyone else.” The stylish student's advice would be to “wear what you want, not just follow the crowd.”
Tira Satienpoch, who is originally from Massachusetts but lives in Hackney is meeting friends in town today. The 31-year old mechanical engineer is dressed in a black Betsey Johnson jacket, a floaty skirt that was “an impulse buy from somewhere in London in 2007” and some little black shoes. The pearl necklace she wears has a bit of a story behind it: “It was given to me as a gift when I was a bridesmaid at a wedding, I was told that it’s infused with all sorts of powers.” Tira describes her style simply as “dark and cute.”
